Apple has managed to sell over 700,000 ipads in one day, yet the unit has no multitasking capability, meaning you can't surf the net and listen to music at the same time. You can't take photos with it, because there is no camera. Although it does have a VIRTUAL, it does not have a physical keyboard. Some call it an over-sized ipod touch.

As one technology analyst put it, "Like Apple or not, they are the trendsetters and set the standard for technology."

Personally, I think that future generations of the ipad will give the consumer what he/she wants. I believe the ipad will evolve into something that will change they way we compute. I just feel bad for the consumers who bought the first generation ipad. Someone once said that, "Good things come to those who wait . . ."

The Ipad = Fail. Until of course they launch the next 5 gen. of it and eventually it replaces all technology.

They're not trendsetters with the Ipads. Tablets have been around since ten years ago. IBM, now Lenovo was the first to come out with it. The original tablet allowed people to write notes on the backside of the tablet and it gets transcribed to a file suitable for printing in addition to other things you can do with notebooks. Doctors used it to write prescriptions that get translated to a readable and printable form. Others used it to write with a pen like attachment and produce a transcribed document. It was quite expensive though at 10k a pop. I like the Lenovo version better. It's a notebook that converts to a tablet when the screen is detached from the rest of the gadget.

My daughter has one that we purchased for her as a required part of her university curriculum, several years ago. We purchased it almost 5 years ago. It's made by HP. It has a stylus for handwriting and a physical keyboard and is designed as a laptop, but the screen can be laid down flat and twisted into a tablet. I'm well aware of those but the ipad is a trendsetter because you rarely saw anyone with a tablet, because they never caught on in a big way, but you will now see many people with the ipad. Through the ipad, Apple has transformed the tablet into a slimmer, lighter, cheaper and more versatile machine.

Sorry, insisting on calling Apple a trendsetter in this regard is stretching the definition of it. More like copycats;)
