At that size, it'll probably be difficult for it to eat ghost shrimp, switch to frozen bloodworms for now - young spiny eels favorite food - later, once it gets a little bigger, switch to cut up pieces of worms, until it'll take whole worms. Personally, I used feed my spiny eels ghost shrimp as very rare treats, but not anymore, as their sharp rostrum and tail can cause internal damage. Also, start pipe training it now, so it won't dig around in your substrate and up-root your plants, also make sure your aquarium is eel proofed.

thnx very much and i goin out tonight to get sum blood worms. i will start pipe trainin now as well.

I also have a young peacock eel. I'd say mine is around the same size. i've never seen him eat, but i feed the tank bloodworms, and i've had him for around two months now. i'm just afraid he isn't getting enough to eat.

Spiny eels are noctural by nature, once they get bigger they'll come out when the lights are on more often - drop some food in after the lights are turned off, as he's more than likely picking up whatever is left on the bottom after you feed your other fish.

eel proofing is right.
they will find food dont worry.
Ive always feed mine bllod worms and brine shirmp. theyve eaten any baby snails they could find in the tank as well

I just picked up a 8'' spiny eel called a fire eel.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
