Just picked up my first bichir, it's a 7 - 8 inch senegal. I paid $12 USD. Is this a good price? He ate frozen krill right in front of me so I know he's healthy and eating. Any advice? I put him in my 135 with my Jack Dempsey, Green Terror, Texas cichlid and Green severum. All the cichlids are in the 4 inch range. How large can I expect him to grow in a tank this size? Around 12'' but it will take awhile... years. Their fastest growth rate is from 2'' to 6'' (ish) and then they slow down a lot. Krill is fine, mine love pellets, earthworms, silversides and market shrimp. Enjoy your fish

Thanks for the info. I'm planning on setting up a 185 bichir tank in the next year or so if I have good luck w/ this senegal. Are these compatible with other bichirs?
yup, you can house all sorts of poly's together.
and thats a great deal on an 8" senegal. i paid a little less then that for my 3" one and the place that has the larger senegals charges $28 for one that size.....and this is the place that has $44 longfinned senegals.
