I had a bichir that ripped an eye out of an iridescent shark on Easter, then finished the job a week later. Didn't even kill the thing either, just blinded it and left it to die.

eyes are easy to eat off fish. If a fish dies often tankmates will eat them. Eyes are the easiest to start with. Since it is floating I would say it died a while ago.

Yeah I was going to get a 6' Albino Bristlenose Pleco the other day for algae purposes, but I was advised that the eyes could be a target.
I was actually thinking that it could've died before.
The tank is right by my bed in a bachelor and I look at it quite often,
I didn't notice anything this morning but about an hour later I saw that fish floating..
