Whut up hybrid lovers!

I've been really lucky to get hooked up with some nice FH and I'm going to try breeding for the first time.

I got a couple friends that are used to breed FH, jeboxfiddy and jlnguyen and I got great advice from them, and I'm always open to any input others have.

Au Duong Phong also referred me to a siiiick FH site, so I'll be posting there too, very soon.

So down to business. My first project will be to cross the golden platinum males I got from BabyChris's stock, with a big girthy Kirrin. Correct me if I'm wrong, but can Kirrin have different name types? Mine has the color/pattern of a blue dragon zz, but in parrot shape.

I'm hoping to produce some Kirrin with the golden platinum color, and some FH with blue pearls and golden color, also some normal kirrin with more red on them.

I got the methylene blue for the egg hatching/fry rearing tank, and I'll be getting a flat clay plate for the spawning.

For the past few weeks the males were showing spawning behavior by diggin pits, but they had no female.

They also chase around the male blood parrot and smaller sibling FH in the tank.

I introduced the big female kirrin last night, and at first the males followed her around a lot and open their mouth at her but not attacking.

Now they are comfortable with her, and hopefully will breed soon in a separate tank so I can remove the parents and leave the eggs.

For now I want them to get used to being around a female.

here are some pics fo the kirrin female and the golden platinum, just starting to grow a kok:

There is a good chance that your male Jin Kang is not fertile. Only time will tell though. The killin parrot looks nice. I wouldn't mind owning that fish bro. Good luck on your trials and I'll see you over at the CRAZE as I noticed your name pop up on the New Members list...:D

haha thanks bro! I've been spotted :D

I'm just a lurker, I have a lot to learn about the FH scene, and I'm really impressed with what I see around here and over at CRAZE :D

Bro, I got that kirrin January '08', I'll post some pics of when she was younger and in better light to show her blue pearls.

So is it common for male to be infertile?

Common for males with parrot blood. KKP and BP and any other male parrots are something stupid like 99% infertile. When you cross a female parrot with something and get male offspring your chances of infertility go down but whos to say how much...

Ah I see. I don't know if BabyChris FH have parrot blood in them. you say Jing Kang? I've heard faded kamalau, golden platinum, etc... I'm lost again lol

I've got my fingers crossed they're fertile.

here is what the female kirrin looks like without flash and not stressed:

This pic is when I first got her in Jan '08', she was about 3" TL:

This pic was taken a few months ago, smaller than she is now, before John beefed her up :D :

She still looks like this, but she is stressed and hiding right now.

As soon as she settles in, I will take update pics :)

this is where I will post updates and questions about breeding.

okey to answere your questions there is no parrot blood on those fishes. second those are golden platinum not jing kang. I used a platinum male with a pearly snakeskin pattern female rd zz that is why some people are calling it faded kamalau. a lot of breeders think that most of the genes comes from the mother but for me 60% of the time they get their genes from the father this is from my experience. Ive been breeding flowerhorns for years now so I can justify what I said. so the bottom line this fish are golden platinum each breeder can call thier fish what ever they want so dont get confuse on that but for me they ar ejust plain golden platinums. :)

Cool, thanks for clearing that up bro!

Any tips on breeding?

Right now they keep her in the corner behind the plants, but her breeding tube dropped today.

Is it just a matter of time?

yup since its their first time they might eat the eggs if not then you can hatch them artificially like what I do to have more hatching rates. like when you breed angel fish after 24 hrs of fertilization you can hatch them the same method. good luck.

Thanks, I can't wait!

I'm going to hold back all the fry and grow them all out to see what this combo does.

Hopefully I get some crazy unique stuff thanks to those great males you produced.

I'm hoping for that color and pattern with blue pearls in parrot shape so I can name the strain, or would that just be another kirrin?

SUCCESS! I've had the male and female golden plats. on one side of the 120g, with no slate so they wouldn't spawn.

I kept the kirrin on the other side so she could establish a territory, then last night I introduced the male golden to her.

When I came home from work last night, I saw the slate full of eggs!

What now? Move the eggs to the 40g with the methylene blue? Temp is off by 2 degreess.

So far they look fertilized, but only time will tell I guess. Some are white, so I'm worried I should move the eggs now. Any help I can get is appreciated.

Here are the pics:

They laid them very compact, very different from when the golden plats spawned:
