Here is my first fish through this years ice. 19" LMB caught on golden shiner on a tipup. Caught about 15 minutes after setting it up. Good start to the season. Can't believe we already have 8" of ice here.

You ice-fisherman surely are a different breed from myself. I don't know how you go outside in the winters in Michigan, let alone go out there for hours and fish in the open winter air out there. I gotta give you credit. Very nice bass to start off the winter season, by the way.

I'm with this guy!

nice, never got a bass during ice season. we got 7-9" on most lakes and i hear tell they are driving on parts of mille lacs with something like 14"...the problem is that we got around 3' or so of snow so the lakes are under stress and not creating the ice as fast as they should.

Wow! 8" of ice already! Are you in the UP?
Nope, about 40 miles north of Detroit.

Yeah, def a different thing. We do it right though, beers, cigars and lots of fish. We were on the ice from noon till 5:30. Used a shanty as an outhouse and had a heater in there. It was like a sauna. If I use a shanty I am usually fishing in a T-shirt, they get warm when you have a heater going.
