I just got my first 55 gal SW FOWLR three weeks ago from a friend and haven't killed any of the fish he gave me so thought I'd try a snail and a shrimp today. I am proud to announce that I have successfully acclimated them to my tank without killing them with sudden shock (if that happens...).

My damsel thought it was odd that a rock was crawling up the wall and had to poke at it a couple times, my blenny was happy to have new friends, and my clown wants nothing to do with anyone! (she's my favorite, lol).

What are some other good, hardy inverts to add to the tank? (and what do they eat?)

I plan to go reef someday, so they'd have to be coral-friendly and not outgrow the tank.

Can I put a 5" reef lobster with a damsel, clown, and scooter blenny without anything blowing up in my face? Is a 55 gal tank big enough for it and a small reef setup with other fish? And will it attack my shrimp and stuff? I want a lobster soooo bad....That would be so cool if I found one that will work out!!

Congrats on coming to the dark side! A reef lobster is a peaceful lobster and is generally reef safe. It depends on the one you get. They are described as reef safe with caution. They also have a peaceful temperment towards healthy fish and inverts. But they are very territorial and aggressive towards eachother so you can gonly have 1 unless they are a mated pair. They also need supplements in the water such as iodine which you would be using anyway for some corals in your future reef. Iodine ensures proper molting

It says online that they will sometimes attack smaller bottom-dwellers, so will my blenny be safe? I plan to get a couple more and don't want to put them at risk. And will my other inverts be safe around him? Its only a 55 gal tank so I don't even know if its big enough for him, let alone with tank-mates.

You said it depends on the one you get, does that mean I want to aim for a specific species or I have to pray for a docile personality?

Hope for a peaceful lobster, i had three before i found a keeper. Check out a sea hare, ciol algea eater. Coral banded shrimp are fun.

^^ until you turn the room light on at midnight and freak your damsel out and the shrimp starts attacking her as she bumps into everything! :nilly: Scared the poop out of me last night! Everything's ok now though, thank God! Do you ever see your coral banded shrimp? He disappeared overnight and I haven't been able to find him today. didn't even come out to be fed.

Try a lobster, if you gey lucky you will get a keeper the first time. I see my banded all the time. He chases and attacks my hand when in tank!
