first we had our sister state Louisiana get torn up by Katrina. Now Rita is waiting to make landfall. I'm sure you guys seen the MONSTER heading our way. Rita is a category 5 hurricane and unfortunately looks to come straight my way. I will probably make my way into Austin to safer ground tomorrow night. I fear my fish might perish in the storm. I can only pray and hope for the best.

that really sux.... anyone from that area too?

We're hunkering down here, too, and we're more central than Houston. Cabouta, I don't know you from Adam (as the saying goes) but if you -- and any particularly valuable fish -- need a place to go, give me a holler. We shouldn't see much more than a lot of rain and a lot of wind here. I'm working on borrowing a generator for my tanks. We could always set up a divider or a quarantine tank. I'll be online most of the day.

You guys who are around Houston need to get the heck out. Get at least as far north as Huntsville. You do NOT want to be there when this comes through! I'm originally from SC, so hurricanes are nothing new for me (we were in Orangeburg, SC for Hugo), but this is a nasty one. I'm in Athens, which is about 30 minutes southwest of Tyler, and we are planning on getting hit head on with really strong winds and rain.

Anyone remember how 90% of Mississippi was without power for a week?

If you're in any sort of evacuation zone, LEAVE. This is a BIG storm, in which hurricane force winds extend 85 miles from the center, which means, 85 miles inland will feel hurricane force winds at landfall. Don't be an idiot or a hero, if you can leave, you leave.
