I just picked up my first knife fish from a local Jacks Aquarium. I believe he is an African Brown Knife fish and he is about 4" long. I was wondering if it would be okay to put him with my two pearl gouramis and bullhead catfish. The people said to feed him frozen shrimp cubes. I was also wondering what anybody else that has the same type of knife fish as me feeds theirs, what they keep him with, and how big of a tank they keep him in, thanks.

Thanks I plan to hopefully run into a zebra one at my local pet store. If he grows 6in it should be no problem because he's going to be living in a 55g soon.

How big do those get. I heard that those can get fairly big, too big for a 55g:(. Out of all of the knife fish you Have kept hoyo (I assume you have kept many different types:)) which is your favorite one that I could keep in a 55g. Also from your experience with them can you keep two of them together in one tank. I have heard of people doing it but I have also heard of them being aggressive towards one another.

The Tiger Knife grows to about 18 inches, and needs at least a 90 Gallon Tank.
I have cared for multiple Knifes (Hoping to get two more soon) and so far my favorite would have to be the Zebra Knife, which needs a minimum tank size of 30 Gallons. I have had success with keeping Knifes together, such as a BGK with an African Knife, and my Zebra Knife with my E. humboldtii Knife (Related to the Glass Knife). If you have any more questions about Knife fish, just ask.:)

Man you are making me want a zebra knife even more. Even if I saw one right now in a pet store I wouldn't be able to get one because I have to wait for my tank to cycle. I went to get some Stability but one of my local fish stores didn't have any. I will try to go to another pet store to find some. I was wondering if you had any trouble finding a zebra knife fish and how long your hunt went on, r if you just ordered one. I was considering trying to special order one through my pet store. I was also wondering what size you keep your zebra knife and African knife in and what all of the fish you keep it with. Also, do you have any pics of your knife fish tank setup. Thanks, you are helping me a lot!

It wasn't too hard finding. In fact I really wasn't looking for one at all. Just came across one on aquabid. Zebra Knifes are supposedly very rare in the Exotic fish trade.. might be hard to find one...
Sadly I no longer have my African Knife (Died due to a "Freak Accident" a few days ago..), so my BGK isn't with any other Knife fish at the moment (Hoping to get a new African Knife soon). But I can get you pics of the setups.
