He's a little 2"er and I think he's all orange. He's QT'ing in a 5g bucket right now and I still don't know what to do with him.
Maybe grow him out in the 45 for a while.

I couldn't find goldfish/koi info anywhere on the site..
Can anyone tell me what the definition of a Koi is, and the definition of a goldfish?
I'll be really bummed if I wound up with a goldfish.

Also any general caregiver information?

well my koi his name is Moby Dick(He's a mirror carp thats all white) loves blue berries as an occasional treat but is mainly fed on nutritios koi pellets, an obviously hes going to need atleast 300gallons later on...

Koi have barbels (one small whisker at the corner of their mouth), get up to 3', and are Cyprinus carpio. Goldfish do not have these barbels, do not get nearly as big (12-15"), and are Carassius auratus.

So I'm looking for barbels...
FCK I think I messed up.

But if I'm lucky I'll wind up with one or two 6"-7" KOI(not goldfish) sometime in the next couple weeks.

I just remembered about my grandmother's unsuccessful koi pond,
so I'm going to help her set it all up in the spring of 2011 and bring her all the Koi I've raised until then.

The tiny guy was named by my girlfriend before I even got him..
"HITLER!" or "Princess Bubblegum"
...
So in about 2 or 3 more days I want to throw him in the community tank for a while.
I'm not worried about aggression in the least,
but how can I absolutely insure that this fish doesn't have any nasties with it?
It was an outdoor fish, anything rediculously gruesome I need to be aware of before throwing it in the tank?

yes, parasites!!!

This is something I'm worried about.
They were on the sidewalk so there's no telling who spat in the pond.

How would I diagnose/treat any parasites it might have?
And anything else I should worry about?

I think he's just a goldfish, so I might just put him back.

Well the 5g bucket was fine, but I took him back to his original place,
and I figured out much funny news about the situation:
It turns out my old neighbor, who's a good friend is the one that put all the fish in there. So the fish are actually fine to fish.
She put tons of goldfish, bass, catfish, and rainbow trout in the pond, so I'm going back with a fishing pole.
Wish me luck, eh?
