Hi im kinda new to the fish world and havnt ever tryed to keep marine fish.
Ive always been keen but know the fiances necessary for a good healthy running tank.
I going to start in small tank,40 liters(10 gallons i think)with a sump littlebit smaller.
Now i know its bad to cut corners but if i can build it myself i forshore prefer it.

I was wondering if i start my tank in a old freshwater tank and want to make a box cyphin for the overflow, and just a return pump.
I have thought about the risks of it all and will kinda rectifier as i go,but any starting tips will be great.

Oh also can i run my sand and rock in the tank without the sump, but just with a canister filter for now, just so i can start the cycle and the natural eco-system
will be building a sump and a diy skimmer soon
shot shot

some of the FOWLER set ups just use tons of rock with power heads...although if you are just starting, a larger tank may actually be easier. More room to make mistakes...If you can, buy the largest tank you can afford. Then buy durable equipment. No use repeatedly buying fish if they are dying because the can't survive the environment. Being in Africa, I bet you can get some crazy rift lake cichlids.

yah shot need to do that, run it for long until its totally visually clear that the system is solid
im going to start small, like couple shrimp and gobys or just a couple fish.
These fish i will only add once ive got the sump ready, the skimmer and the system stable for couple months.

ive seen the most colourfull guys at some pet stores hey, very aggressive though.
I wan to start small with them, but one tank crayfish will snip them and other tank a oscar will....well yah.
