just got my first bigggg tank.. well not that big but a 90 gallon i got it used for 300 for filter gravel stand 2 lights with 4 extra bulbs and heater...everything i need .. i saw it up and running yesterday and it looked great!... well today i filled it up.. and it is dirty brown water now :(.. will it settle or should i empty the tank wash/change the gravel? if it clears up ill gravel vacuum it.. its only been 20 minutes so should i be so discouraged?

you should clean it out and then scrub the tank down then refill it
:)

I would definitely break it down and give it a thorough cleaning.

i wanted to use sand... can i just buy regular pool filter sand and put it in the bottom?? how much should i get for a 90 ? and how do you clean the sand.. the gravel vac wont work will it ?

To clean sand, just let the gravel vac hover above the sand, takes a few times to get right but eventually it'll be easy. The fecael matter will just go right up the tube.

For a 90, you will probably need 60lb or so of pool filter sand, depending on how much you want.

Get 2 bags of pool filter silica sand so that you have a nice layer. Before you add it to your tank you are gonna want to rinse it out very well. To do this, add about half a bag to a bucket and get your water hose. Fill it up with water and tilt the bucket to let the fine stuff run off. Keep flipping and stirring the sand while constantly running the water. When the runoff is clear, put it in your tank. Better do this now or have all that crap in your tank, eating up your filters. But make the switch, it is well worth it for your fish. They all love it.

thanks!!.. now one semi dumb question.. whats the best way to get the 90 gallons of water out of my tank .. lol... i have a hose.. shop vac which would be alot of trips everytime it fills up or gravel vac into a bucket 1 by 1... the tanks in my basement so it will have to be emptied into the large sink thats down there..
