Is that 'giant perch' a barra or a nile perch?

Hello to everyone!

I'm probably one of the few guys here from mother Russia hehe))

I'm currently constructing a 4000liter tank, and for the first time some barramundi OR Nile perches were imported into the country.
For us here, it is a new fish! I know, that in USA both are common monster fishes and do not present huge interest, but for us here... It is a unique offer.

But seller just called them something that can be translated as 'giant perch' what ever that means.

So can you guys help me out please (not sure if the sub forum I posting at is right, this is my 1st post, so moderator please move this message if I am wrong!)

Any way, this is what I am offered (price is 200 US dollars)

These guys I already have, bought a pair of azul cichla directly from South America, so wild caught as you guys say. And raised them from 6cm to about 20-25cm now. They are in a 500liter grow out tank.image.jpg

Cichla's are not rare here, azuls, monos, kelberies, orinos are present on the Russian market, just 2-3 times more expensive than you have them in the US.

But there are less than 10-15 barramundies in the whole country. So I am very anxious to get one juvenile (at the moment they are about the same size as my azuls) But I am aware, that those guys grow quick.

It looks like it is pretty hard to tell Lates calcarifer from Lates niloticus. E.g., this link http://australianmuseum.net.au/barramundi-lates-calcarifer-bloch-1790 says:

The Barramundi closely resembles the Nile Perch, Lates niloticus, an African freshwater species that is imported from Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. The two species are difficult to tell apart because the body proportions change with growth. Only two characters are useful. The number of lateral line scales (Barramundi, 52-61 vs Nile Perch, 60-80) and width of the bony interorbital as a percentage of standard length. (Barramundi, 3.2% to 3.6% vs Nile Perch, 4.1% to 4.9%). The latter figures are from an unpublished report produced in 1990 by John Paxton.

My calcarifer appears to be much shinier and lighter colored than the fish in the photo but that this may not mean much.

That looks like a barramundi as most Nile perches that I have ever seen have some amount of mottling.
