So i realized today how confusing ordering offline can become... i ordered my first datnoid offline and i was told a price around 50$. I sent the money and then i get an email telling me my payment was short, cuz i did not include the shipping! i feel like a buffoon.. has anyone else done this?? so now i have to send the extra 35$... man 85$ fish better be awesome!!

LESSON LEARNED!!! supplies are always more then u expect!!

never done it, because if you read the small print on the site or in the shipping section, there is always a minimum shipping amount. the only way i would order online is if it was the ONLY way i could get that specific fish, or was buying a number of fish. 1 fish or 10 fish, the shipping will be about the same....

next time, ask your LFS (not a chain one though) about ordering a fish for you. you save on the shipping as it'll most likily come with the rest of thier stock.
Oh well, Lesson Learned

ps. in your post, i think you meant ONline, not OFFline

I was buying a Datnoid, and i had about 4 different LFS that put me on a Dat waiting list. After a few months with no phone calls, i went with Fish Room PLus,a nd i couldnt be any happier, theyre a really helpful, patient, customer friendly staff... Well worth it

Not so!! LFS add the cost of shipping into the price of their fish. Then the mark up most times outrageous. Then they add their overhead.

Now I am not saying the LFS shouldn't do this, hell they have to to stay in business, but LFS are not cheaper!!

It is true buying one fish online is not always cost effective, that's why you should order more!!!

90% of all the animals i had were shipped lol..

Wow Taz you accused someone of doing drugs and called someone ignorant in the same post.

Tough day buddy?

On average a LFS will try to get double what they paid for a fish some less some more.

You could also find some local Mfk'rs to divide the shipping with you and get themselves some fish

   Never done That I checked out shipping before i checked out price :D

But now I am :D from ear to ear and happy YOU are here :D Thanks...

Just know what you are looking for, how much you can spend, and expect to pay some bucks for shipping. It wouldn't hurt to use the general discussion forum to ask about that supplier either.

Make sure you read all the details entitled with the sale. There can be many loopholes you may otherwise fail to notice. Most of the time however they are straight forwards and WYSIWYG. Generally though, it IS cheaper to get more fish online than just one single fish, as the shippin won't go up unless there is a large number of the fish or they are large. Another method that might save you money is shippin them air cargo if you have multiple fish.

Aside from that, if your LFS can get the fish in, the correct species and all, go that route. It evens out in the long run, because you have the opertunity to see the fish in person, and observe how it is reactin and fairin healthwise. Its not binding either, as they would more than likely be able to sell it to another person if you would so choose not to get it. The reason most of us order online is because of the UNAVAILABILTY of the fish we desire to keep. Some LFS CAN'T get in what you want because of their contracts with certain distributers and what not. For some of us, there simply aren't any LFS in range to go to period.

Either way, don't let this experience make you jaded towards online sales, as they open doors to aquarists that were once closed to older generations...;)
