Hey all, I started digging my first pond today. I'm posting the thread in reptiles, because it all started for an Eastern Spiny Softshell Turtle :screwy:.

It started with just burying a kiddie pool, then increased to a 5x8x2 pond, and now its about 6x13x3-4 feet deep :nilly:.

It's gonna house the spiny softshell, several shortnose gars, some bluegill/sunfish, and whatever other natives I catch this summer.

Great start. Great turtle.

What are you doing w/the extar soil?

It's probably going to be spread around certain area's of the yard that tend to hold water when it rains. I already graded my backyard once to improve drainage, but didn't get it perfect. This should help that.

Well, its been raining like mad for the last 2 hours, so my new pond is now full of water. Hopefully it will dry out by the end of the week (looks like plenty of t-storms forecast though) :irked:

nice job on the pond...looking forward to the finished product :)

Yah, after it had filled up last night (and while it was still raining), my girlfriend and her sister put on their bathing suits and went swimming :screwy:.

They got a few scrapes from the roots still sticking out of the bottom, but they said their skin feels silky smooth from the "mud" bath that they had .

How deep did you get before the rain?
