Hey all.

Well the primary reason for searching out this forum was because I'm finally dipping into the guapotes. I've got 6 wild caught Parachromis friedrichsthalii 'Cenote Escondido' on order. I'll be picking them up this weekend. They're 2.5-2.75 inches in length right now.

Now as mentioned, this is my first taste of Parachromis and I wanted to start out with the less aggressive species first. Here's my questions:

-Can they be put with other cichlids of the same size while they grow?
-How should be decorating the tank? Cover for hiding spots or empty?

Anything else I should know? I'm pretty stoked about these guys. This locality is supposed to be quite nice too. Anyone else have freddies?

Cheers,
Nick

Parachromis tankmates are a crap shoot. Some will be tolerant and some will murder anything you put in there. It depends largely on the individual fishes' personalities. I believe in providing cover or "houses" for territory to claim and/or a place to hide. Others believe in no cover for nothing to fight over. It depends on who you ask. My way works well for me though.

Good luck and post some pics when you get them.;)

Good pick up. I like to Aquascape with driftwood and plants. It most closely mimics their home (in my experience). Some of my Motas (I know you have freddies) have been tolerant of other fish and some have killed everything that moved. Cichlids are very personable and Guapotes are no exception. Hopefully yours turn out as mellow as you are hoping.
