The Land where Fish Rule!
He guys my first 3 peacock bass ever should be arriving tomorrow and was looking for somemore info on feeding them when there small. I have heard that alot of people feed them live food till thy are around 6 inches or so and some others just feed the them non-live food from the get go. So I was wondering would it be ok to get them off live food as soon as possible by feeding them pellets/sticks and also supplementing them with either tilapia or market shrimp. Is there any reason that feeding live is better for the fishes health or do some people do it just becuase they cant get the fish off of live? The fish arriving should be around 2 inches. I have never fed any of my fish live for parasitic reasons and also just becuase its not as healthy for the fish as other things, but was wondering if with peacock bass it was any different? Thanks

If they accept non live foods like frozen bloodworms, krill, market shrimp, and/or tilapia fillets right off the bat, then there's no need to feed live. Had to start the azul in my 40 gallon off with live so he'd associate me with food, got him onto cut up shrimp last week. He averages about half a shrimp per day.

agreed alot of people feed live because its there natural diet most people feeding live use feeder goldfish they are different then the fishes natural diet and kept in poor conditions in cramped storage tanks where they literally breed disease if you want to use feeders they work your fish will be way more susceptible to disease. Unless you breed your own feeders id steer clear of them

If you can get them to eat pellets it's always better to stick to pellets or non-live foods. There is always a chance of parasites or diseases with live feeders
