Hey everyone, I'm new to the site and i just wanted to get some input or advice for my first build. im a little nervous that my build might fail, but am determined to do it anyway. Im only making a 150 gallon tank with a 6 foot length. I will be making my own filters and lighting, but am conflicted on what waterproofing agent, and type of plywood i should be using. Any and all suggestions and bits of advice will be taken to heart, and i appreciate your help. Thanks guys! Let me know what you think.

Welcome! It's a lot of fun to build your own tank, I'm sure you will be fine :) Just use standard 3/4" plywood making sure one side is not full of knots and give it a good sanding on the side that will be the inside of the tank. Use liquid nails construction adhesive and screws to bond the joints, if you want to be really safe use fiberglass corner cloth from www.uscomposites.com and Max ACR epoxy, you can't go wrong. Good luck!

There is a thread under the DIY tank heading that is just a compilation of many different plywood tanks that have been built on here. That is a great spot to start doing research because you can see what did and didn't work for various people to help you make a decision on which way to go.

Thanks guys, i did some thinking last night and might decide to cut it down to around 130 gallons. Im thinking plywood tanks are alot lighter than commercial glass, and im taking a risk putting this tank on the second floor. You guys think it will be ok? I dont plan on reinforcinh my floor, but it will be put against a load bearing wall and will not be parallel to the floor joists.
