First Pond Build

I'm getting all my info together for my first Pond build. I'm looking at from 700g to 1000g outdoor above ground pond. I plan to use a 55g plastic barrel as filter container. Baffelled waterfall return at 6' above pond bottom. 6 or 8 med sized Koi and a few in water plants.
I could use some help with a few details...

#1 How much cirulation (gph) will I need for a med stocked and planted pond ?

#2 What type of media should I fill the barrel/filter with ?

#3 Are there solar lighting system that will go in and out of the water for night lites ?

I'm sure there will be lots more but this will get me started.

From my experience double is better. Get a pump that runs 1400 or 2000 gph.

#2 What type of media should I fill the barrel/filter with ?

I use bio balls, but im pretty sure there are better alternatives. I was thinking about using landscaping stone for my next media.

#3 Are there solar lighting system that will go in and out of the water for night lites ?

Im sure there are. Just shop around on websites.

I'm sure there will be lots more but this will get me started.
