so today while at school i had an awesome idea "why not build a pond since i cant keep a huge tank upstairs in my room". before its official i have to ask my landlord if its okay. but at this moment its on untill then either way ill use the info i get for future reference. the pond would be outside on the side of my apartment the dimensions (lxwxh) 12ft 9ft 2-3ft. im not exactly sure on depth yet. now these are my questions (keep in consideration my biggest tank is 55 gallons so im all new to huge tanks and ponds) how do you heat an outdoor pond my air temps around here can go from 100F in the summer to 30F in the winter and like right now can be sporadic rapidly changing from very hot to very cold. how do you protect outside ponds from the weather conditions and hurricanes, what about leaves flying into it, how do you filter it and do water changes, how do you even build a pond to begin with lol, how would i run the plumbing along with the electrical for pumps

providing all goes according to plan im thinking as for stock maybe a red tailed catfish or some of the bigger cichlids or a few arowanas

just now i had an idea like someone youtube build it like an in ground swimming pool?. any of you ever saw that guy who had a huge pond with a bridge that went across it i think he had some oscars and arows in it maybe some gourami too

First I would see if you can get permission. Second, don't do it. So many ways for it to go wrong. Property is not yours, you share it. Anyone can access it and put who knows what in it. What if you decide to move? Get evicted? Building is sold? Personally think you should hold off. How will you power it? Extension cord from your unit. Who pays for electricity now? Heating in the winter can get expensive on top of pumps. Who pays for water? Bigger the area the bigger the expense for maintenance. Just some food for thought.

It may still be, but a lot of things to think through first. I know the feeling of wanting the bigger tank or pond and I sympathize. Good luck.
