I currently have one of each and they get along really well. I've had them for about 3-4 weeks now. The Carpintis is about 3 inches and the Synspilum is about 4-5 inches... Will they get nasty when they get bigger?

P.S. If you tell me how to I will post Pics

Thanks!

how large is the tank? i cant say anything about the synspilum but vontehillo get fairly aggressive just like any of the carpintis but not quite on the level of the big guys like midas or devils, as long as the tank is large enough they will probably get along just have some dithers or something to spread around the aggression a bit

oh and WELCOME to MFK!!! and in order to post pics go to the "go advanced" tab and then there should be a section that says manage attachments or something like that and you just upload them but i think there might be a required post amount to reach first in order to post pics, im not sure though

Thanks for the welcome! I've been scouring these forums non stop for the past couple weeks and finally decided to sign up!

I have a 55 gallon tank right now, plenty of caves and fake plants for them to hide in. I have a bunch of barbs as dithers.

I plan on getting a 120 gallon when they outgrow this tank.

cool, yeah they will probably be alright in there for a couple months but if one decides to get aggressive then they will def need the larger tank sooner rather than later, i dont know about syn growth rates but my vonts grew pretty quickly, that syn is already showing some great color already, should def be a show stopper :) not sure on how to sex syns but with carpintis its kind of tricky you can go by their body shape and whether they get a black spot in their dorsal fin (usually associated with females) but easiest way to know when they are still little is to take them out and vent them by look at their private parts (there should be lots of pics on here about what the vents of the different sexes should look like)
