So I just got home with my first group of piranha. I just put 5 red bellies in a 90. Tank may be small when they get big, but they're only around 1". I'll post some pics tomorrow, as I'm leaving lights off for the night. Any tips would be helpful. They eat flake now. Tank is filtered with a marineland c360 canister and a hot 350 canister. Also have a 750 gph power head in tank since I hear they like flow. The power head is aimed so that they can choose to swim in it, but easily get out of the flow. I'd really like to plant this tank. Is it possible?

Plants are possible but rather annoying in a rbp tank imo, could never get then to stay rooted without the fish knocking them around.

Best bet is Anubis attached to dw and some hairgrass or Xmas moss. Even then they will nip at it and or up root them. Driftwood is a great way to compliment a piranha tank and give it that Amazon theme.

Are you looking at plants for filtration or decor?

Anyways Congrats and 5 rbp will be fine in a 90gal given its a 4'x18" footprint for a year, I bet one will get picked off tho as juvy rbp are physcos. Keep them well fed but on that note keep water CLEAN!

Cheap way to decrease nitrates and keep your fish healthy: http://monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=504763

I just like having live plants in all my tanks. Cuts nitrates, gives natural cover, and looks great IMO. I was mainly asking if the p's will eat the plants. When I have fish that uproot plants, I use fishing line to tie the plants to a rock and then I bury the rock.
