I have finally done it- I bought a shark egg today!!! The egg seems to be in excellent health, fairly developed, and looking like 2-3 weeks for the hatching. I have been in the hobby three years now and have become obsessed. I have a 24g nano with a 150w MH and a 150g that I have been working on for the last three months. Eventually I plan on making this tank an Acro and SPS tank but that is at least a year out. In the meante however I get to have an aggressive tank until switching over. First time to post so I know this is somewhat of s clichè post but gotta get it over with...

Oh yeah forgot to mention that I have a great deal of experience with advanced species- I have had two octopuses and both did phenomonly well. The first died of old age and the second outgrew the nano (got him when he was about the size of a silver dollar)

COngrats and best of luck. Look at some websites about how to stimulate the feeding in newborn sharks as that appears to be the biggest problem from hatched eggs.

What kind of shark?

I would guess its a Brownbanded Bamboo Shark, same as in my avatar. Don't worry if the shark doesn't eat right away, just be patient and keep attempting to feed it every now and then. Most sharks don't eat until weeks, and sometimes months, after their born.

Good luck.

You are going to need a larger tank. Who told you it was ok to keep a shark in a 24g? Plus, you do know its going to make a mess of that 24g right? Your corals will get knocked all over and he will move your rocks all over. The water quality will also get bad since you have to feed your shark fresh squid/clams/fish and in pretty big amounts

If still in time and you are willing to do what is right, you should take the egg back to the store before it hatches or get a bigger tank

Definitely CANT keep him in there for a year like you are planing

The 150 g may be ok for about the 1st year. But eventually you will need a much larger tank.

Keep in mind - a Brown-banded Bamboo is capable of going from a 6" pup to a 36" adult in about 4 years. Just to give you something to think about and plan ahead for.

you need a way bigger tank that said my egg has turned into an awsome little beast over the past months he hand feeds now and looks really cool swimming around
