FINALLY!!! We have eggs!!! Only took a year of trying (or missing the eggs) to get a spawn and after my tank was newly set up after moving (while all other tanks are boxed up yet), they spawned today!

Now what do I do? Should I set up my 33long and move the parents once the eggs have hatched and are being held? The tank theyre in now has 7 small catfish in as well, and I dont want them all getting eaten!

I'd just move the catfish elsewhere.
sometimes the eggs get eaten a few times while the parents are learning, so don't be too disappointed if that happens. they'll probably spawn again soon & improve every time.

+1

And congratulations!

Congrats! I bought six of these guys at 2.5-3" each and am impatiently awaiting their sexual maturity. LOL Would you tell me what your water parameters are as far as pH, GH and KH go?

I second the removal of the catfish to another tank. Geos are mouthbrooders and if they get scared, they will swallow the eggs/fry. You will need to be cautious around the tank for the next couple weeks until the fry are no longer taking up residence in their parents' mouths. If you spook them.....gulp.

Not sure what my parameters are at, Ill have to dig out the test kit shortly.. I JUST moved ugh! But I think I figured out what triggered the actual egglaying this time around. I added a piece of real driftwood this time and the water softened up. My little bolivian ram is BRIGHT too.

I sadly have only the one tank, there are 6 syno petricola which leave them alone for the most part, but my hybrid syno is the only concern I have but he seems to be avoiding them all as well. I am thinking about fashioning a divider for now...

I cant tell for sure, but Sunday evening the male ran around eating the eggs, or so I thought. I left out of town for a couple days and came home today, he looks like he might be holding! But I cant tell for sure as I cant see in his mouth much. What do you think? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElXlmSKTmBg

I will be setting up my 33long as soon as Im unpacked for this pair, thats for sure.

when holding, they keep their lips closed together firmly to hold fry inside, and the area under their throat pooches out a little at first- increasing as the fry grow.
