Hi Guys,

I've done some reading on MFK regarding sumps and i've decided to replace the very small sump that came with my 180G tank.

My current sump already has a spray bar so i will in-corporate it into the sump design. It's a very basic design and i feel that there should be enough water flow.

I'm open to suggestions to improve the design before i get the aquarium guy to put it all together next week.

thanks,

thats a lott of sponges. i dont think its neccesary to have a layer of sponge under both the bio. but you might want to add some sort of sponge/ mechanical over the first layer of bioballs, so the bio doesnt get clogged with all the junk from the tank.

Make sure your baffles are lower than the rim of the sump. This way if your sponge becomes blocked the water will overflow into the next chamber rather than the floor. This lets you use some of the quilt batting or similar in your sump to polish the water, surprisingly well, without danger of overflow.
