I am a student and have recently fallen in love with this hobby, my friends and family think I am a little crazy about how excited I have become about keeping fish. This is week two of establishing the biofilter with the zebra danios. Currently I have two filters on my 55 gallon: CA55/77 aqueon and 70 aqua clear. For substrate I have 2.5inchs of flourite with no plants at the moment. To help mitigate future problems I was hoping to hear your opinion and seek your suggestions.

I am unhappy at the moment with cords everywhere and want to clean it up somehow. My future plans are to upgrade to a bigger tank(180-250gallons) That being said I would probably keep both but I want to upgrade to a canister filter which is big enough to transfer to the bigger tank in the future. I was tossing the idea of EHEIM 2180 XLT or PRO e3 model. My concern is that these would be too big and cause problems for in my 55 gallon. If that is the case I will end up buying two cansiters, one properly fit to the 55 gallon and one for the new bigger tank. What do you guys think?

Also what other equipment would be essential if I plan to upgrade to a bigger tank?

Thank you, all input is welcome

Cheers,

Dc
