I haven't had a tank since i was a kid 40 years ago. I've been thinking about starting a native fish tank and recently i was given a 55 gallon tank. kind of hard to get small fish this time of the year so i got some redtail chubs and a couple of suckers from a bait store.Picture 1227.jpgPicture 1226.jpg

I plan on some small gills or pumpkinseeds maybe a little bullhead, but this isn't exactly the time of the year for them. Next year when little fish are back in the shallows.

You can always look around your local fish stores. They will get in bluegills etc with thier feeders and most are not allowed to sell them. I got my three fish that way.

Beautifull tank, but i would go for a smaller sunfish for a 55g than a bluegill or pumpkinseed; Longears or spotted would be of a good size.

The gravel, rocks and wood are all from the Wisconsin River. A native tank needs native stuff in it. I feed them flakes. they sure are aggressive eaters. Just like little sharks.

I eventually want to cut down on the number of redtails. Some sculpins and darters for one. what do they eat and will they readily accept food? Hope to have a variety at the end.
