Just picked up my first Thai silk flowerhorn, about 3 inches. Im assuming it is a he because he has a bit of a hump (let me know if you guys agree). Its kinda a cool cus he is two shades of blue if you look really close, kinda split down the middle. The front half is brighter than the back, it is not from lighting because its like this at every angle. Very active, thats why it was so hard to get pics. Any tips or questions please ask. Im going to try to update every month. Thanks for taking a look!

I would say a thai silk would improve your chances but if you could get a half black female that would greatly raise those to at the least a half batch of half black fry but there are tons of strains that have thai silk in the recipe so explore your options even though theres not much info on them what ever you pick just remember that is just one solid pearl and he will throw pearls on anything or add to it great looking silk by the way he'll ony get better and better I bought mine about that size except his head was a little bigger but he still had a space on his head now theres a part where his pearls touch wrapping around his head now with long fins that stream past his caudal

I thought so too on mine but i've had mine for 7 months now slowly but surely its very possible its male and since those eyes are so dark on the red side you won't have a problem with infertility heres the progress from 11/16 from mine I also bought him without him being in contact with other silks so a little time and your silks hump should grow more

I like my dude hes already a glass banger, gonna grow him out as big as possible, feeding New era new world cichlid formula (i like that it is soft cus some flowerhorn have digestive issues) and omega one cichlid pellets now and then. Seems to be taking to it well.

Eh the only reason he looked so good is cause he never had compitition before i put him in my tank he was shipped to the store and i picked him up when the shipment came to the store and took him home in the same bag he traveled in and acclimated him straight to my tanks I do do that with most every fish I purchase if they look healthy in the bag its better that way I don't have to worry about picking up anything from a lfs but Great yeah I like new era its some good stuff just gets pricey for me after a while I would pay the prices if they had genus specific formulas I know they have the ability since they made feed for public aquariums years before putting it on shelves for hobbiest and its great your mixing it with another brand its what I do and recommend oh a little warning my silk had three successful spawns but now his hormones are out of wack and he goes phsyco on my female its recommend that you grow out male flowerhorns till they fully mature and their hormones level out it a teenager phase you might call it so just be prepared I would rate the attitude inbetween a red devil and a dovii and more unpredictable than a dovii a dovii stops for a minute to look at you when you catch him in the act a silk keeps it up till you stick your arm in the tank and literally scoop him away with your hand while he still tries to go around your hand to attack the fish hes going after

Mine is alone in the tank and super glass-banging but mostly for food, not very aggressive....yet....
