Ok so I just ordered my first tig from my lfs. A guy I know at the store got someone from the distributor to text him a pic of it and it has no bars of any kind. All of the juvie tigs I've seen are striped even at a small size. I'm told it's 3". Is this a tig?

Yup, tigrinus. They're incredibly sensitive when small. Don't be shy with water changes, never let him go hungry, and keep him away from potential nuisance tankmates. Once they hit the 6" mark, it seems like the become exponentially more hardy. Good luck with him!

Thanks for the advice. I'm picking him up tomorrow. I'm going to let him sit at the lfs for a day or so to make sure he shipped ok.

I went to look at the little guy today. He's about 2 1/2", no discernable striping of any kind. He's eating live black worms like a little hog. I'm going to leave him at the fish store until Tuesday. They're feeding him 3x daily.

Feed it a couple times a day. Keep in a small tank. They like a lot of water movement. Keep a lot of live black worms on hand for a couple months. I've raised a few this way and had much success from this size. I wouldn't have any tank mates either. Best bet set up a 10g tank somewhere for it

So I picked up the little guy today. I can start to see stripes coming through. He's housed in a bare bottom 20 long with an emperor 400 on it. I have two 150 gph powerheads in there but they seemed to push him around too much so I unplugged them. He's swimming around constantly, absolutely will not stop moving. I'm all stocked up on bloodworms, brine shrimp, and live black worms.

Sounds good. Keep up with water changes and you should do fine. Take pics along the way...it's wild to look back and see how they've changed through the years.
