We are heading out at 530 on the St Johns river here in Florida to do some bass fishing. However of the 4 people going, none of us have been bass fishing before. We have 4 rods all about 6-6.5ft with 8lb line. I bought live nightcrawlers and dillies but also have a few spinner baits and plastic worms as backups. I have the rods rigged with a mix of Texas and Carolina rigs. Is there anything I'm missing? Tips, tricks? I'm not looking to snag a trophy bass but I'd atleast liek to catch SOMETHING!

most florida water I have seen is very stained so chartruese and black would be good colors. I have had the most success in FL with live golden shiners. Nothing beats that beat for nice bass. Thats my advice. Its a sure bet. Looks for structure and grass lines.

i had my first bass fishing trip went to a friends lake hosue in keystone hieghts i spent 6an a half hours standing waist deep in a lake an caught 1 2 pound bass was hella fun glad to finally find another member that lives in florida especially in jacksonville

booo y'all are no fun with live bait :P

use your texas rigs and hook up some of those plastic worms you bought, twitch em across the bottom, twitch the tip of your rod up twice, let it sink and set for a second, reel in the slack, repeat. if your line starts tightening up theres a good chance you have a bass grabbing it, let em take the bait for a second and set the hell out of the hook. Spinnerbaits are my personal favorite though, tie one on there and cast around structure, reel it in steady with a twitch here and there, bass nail em. good luck hope you don't take the easy way out with live bait and the waiting game :P
