First time monster fish keeper

I have never owned more than a goldfish, but my husband is a cichlid enthusiast. We recently picked up a male Parachromis Dovii, and I am thrilled about it! Any tips, tricks or suggestions for this first time owner? Thanks!

Is it a juvenile or still small? These fish get pretty big and can be pretty aggressive.

He's about 5", Temporary 55 gallon tank, as our 150 exploded when our home burned down. It didn't have fish yet, we were preparing it for a dovii though. We are getting a much larger tank next month, as we plan to put a female with him.
