I bought ten pounds of black reef sand, rinsed it out and soaked it for 45min. and put it in the tank and there are small tiny balls of sand that are floating. Is this normal? And how long will it take to sink and be normal? I'm not running any filtration at the moment. This is my first time w/ sand. Thanks

Possibly a day or two. It may be there are tiny bubbles attached to them or they are hollow. Stir the top of the water to break off the bubbles and strain off the rest.

For sand, it's better to rinse and dump the water several times as opposed to just soaking it. You might want to skim off the floaters as they could be impurities and not sand.

no i risensed it and its sand round balls of sand i pick them up and they fall apart

Sounds as if this is the solution to your problem:)

no cause when i stir up the sand lots of small sand balls float up

Sounds like you need to stir it up and get all the air out.
