First time sump.

What do I need / how can I build a sump?
I was just going to use an old 10 gallon. Is it ok to stick the heater in there? (So the Black Pacu won't smash it)

I would get something bigger like a 30-50g rubbermaid bin, they are fairly cheap and are readily available at walmart. Yes you can put the heater in there, that is one of the great things about having a sump.

My best suggestion to you would be to look in the DIY section of the forums and do a search. There is unlimited threads with DIY projects of members building their own sumps.

I built mine using hardboiled's sticky at the top of the DIY Project & Ideas section. It's quite simple once you have something to follow.

10g might be okay for your particular application. The only problem, you haven't posted anything pertaining to what tank you intend to filter! The basic idea of a sump is simple...prefilter, drip tray, biochamber, sponge, pump.

Be very carefull of those plastic bins though.. If the heater leans against it or stick on it will melt a hole in it and leak all the the floor.
