Hi all, I just bought a tank and want to clean it thorougly before adding water and stuff, it's been used before.

I read it is a bad idea to use any kinds of detergents since some may remain unrinsed. Is there something else I can use apart from hot water, like ammonia or chlorine agents(they are volatile after all).

Regards

Bleach water is what I use the most. It will sterilize the aquarium and clean up left over algae and such on the glass and silicone. Rince real well afterwards and fill 'er up, your ready to go. THis works great on equipment and decorations too.

Make sure that the bleach bottle says NONDETERGENT bleach or it can contain a soap additive, White vinegar also works pretty good, especially for hard water deposits, use well rinsed clean rags, not kitchen sponges as many new sponges contain fungicides and antibacterials.

bleach is alright but just hot water and a algae sponge should do the job just fine. its just not worth the risk of using cleaners

same here i have only used hot water and a sponge

By the way, welcome to MFK.
