I am setting my first wet/dry it will be going on my 75 gallon tank. the sump is going to be a 29 gallon tank. the pump i plan on useing is Lifegard Aquatics Quiet One Pro 2200. the tank is not drilled and i am wondering what kind of overflow i should use. i want it to be quiet since it is in my living room. also is there one that will auto prime after a power outage this is what im looking for. if i cant find any thing is there a way i can drill the tank with just lowering the water level or should i take the tank down and drill it. any help would be nice alos any extra advie will be cool. thanks james

If you are okay with the hassle to drill, I would highly suggest it. It makes everything a tonnnnnn easier. Drilling will probably require a draining of the tank, but I don't have much (read: any) experience in drilling so you'll have to wait for someone else to chime in.

Look around this forum for the DIY HOB overflows. I can attest to their ability to work, as I was running one on my last tank before I upgraded to a reef-ready oceanic.

which overflows start by them selfs after a power outage i do not want a wet floor. im sorry for the dumb questions and i know there are a lot of threads that could help me. but there is so much information out there that is is over whelming sometimes. so please help me out.

Most standard overflows with Utube/siphon tubes hold siphon during a power outage if properly designed, and will continue when power returns. As long as there is a weir box in the tank and correctly adjusted overflow box hanging on the outside.

I put a drilled PVC cap in the outer box to reduce the gurgle

if you get an overflow with 2 drains in the outer box, 1 could be adjusted much like a herbie drilled style
I also use a CPR overflow

it has a powerhead that helps to maintain siphon, when power returns the venturi action pulls air out of the overflow box

All properly designed overflows, commercial and diy, will start back up after power failures. Look at the DIY PVC overflow and it's thousands of variations for inspiration/design info if you aren't going to drill.
