i dont think thats an abnormality although it could possibly happen. i read somewhere that people will cut the tails off of parrot fish to make them look like hearts so people will buy them. im trying to find the link that mentions this

I saw a gold fish with no dorsal fin too.. They had dyed frogs and fish too so I'm not surprised they have fish with tails cut off.. I miss the LFS near my old house this one sucks.

Imo i think stores that sell animals like that should be shut down. An animal should be left how nature designed it

That breed of gold fish is called a "ranchu" they are bred to have no dorsal fin.

the heart parrots have been around for at least 15 years now, I'm surprised you didn't know of their existance. Sometimes they clip the tail of fry, other times it is a genetic abnormality. you can tell if its either, If the fish has a nice clear meeting of the fins and there is no scarring or ragged fins, its genetic. If the tail was just cut, thats how it will look... incomplete. I saw a cool jag once that had the tailless abnormality

I have a mala wolf that is missing a peck fin from a birth defect.
