I have two 3'' ID sharks in a 90 gallon tank i have had them for a week now. They spend hours and hours swimming up against the side of the tank trying to get out.. At the store they were in a 10-20 gallon tank and seemed happy and content and were not doing this. So my question is, if they have a nice big home now why do they seem like they hate me and want to GTFO of my tank so bad? Also they are skittish as hell and get scared so easy its kind of frustrating when i just want to feed them or say hi etc. lol

This is normal, they all do that.

Mine does it too or not as much now that he's getting older, he likes the air bubbler so he swims back and forth. ID Sharks are crazy by nature, my Oscar use to hate him because he's all over the place. As they get older, they will settle down. They are some excellent jumpers too, when moving my tank I put the fish in a plastic tub, the height I thought was pretty high but the ID Shark nearly jumped out, it was impressive that they can jump so high from a standing still position.

Remember too, this is your fish's new home, they need to settle into it, just like people when they buy a new home. ID Sharks like shaded areas so add some plants, decorations, places to hide, etc.

It takes time for a fish to get to know you, I like to put my face near the class so the fish can see him and I'll put my hand in in the water, this also gives them a connection to you. Once you start feeding, they will know who you are. Mine comes right up to the glass when I tap on it and show my face, like a trained puppy.

They need to adjust.. they will find out soon enough what a grand place to call home.. but they are babies.. and just need to acclimate.. or you can take them out put them in a smaller tank.. until they are a little older and bigger.. this way you can also feed them better too..

It took my Id's 4-5 weeks to get comfy, neither would eat during this time and they by nature are very skittish. I have them in a 180 and they would only use about 2 of 6 feet of tank and would never leave the safety of the front of the glass. I was highly unimpressed with them, but one is 12" and I toughed it out! Now that they swim all over and eat like horses they are a pretty cool fish

This is what i want, i want to have a connection with my fish so he knows im not going to hurt him. I cant wait until he gets happy around feeding time.

yeah i know they are skittish by nature its kind of a bummer. My fish havnt been eating at all. Does anyone know how fast these grow?

P.S. is there any reason why one of them is really dark and one is a much lighter color? And i just noticed the darker ones face is kind of torn up, is this from rubbing up against the tank or slamming into it when i walk by the tank or something because he is scared?

lol ID sharks grow very very quick. I saw a 2' ish one in an LFS that was free to a good home. there are several sub species though and some get bigger than others and therefore grow slightly faster or slower. but from what I've seen and heard they grow really quick.

I'm sure its a catfish thing my little 2" columbian shark catfish does the same thing
