I just got 2 large apple snails (around 3" diameter), and left them in my 75g tank. The thing is, I have several large SA cichlid in there. I never had problems with snails and small cichlids, but some of the cichlids are relatively big. I have 2 5" jurupari, 2 3-4" oscars, and 2 3-4" severums. Do you think they will damage my snails?

anyone?

?

Personally I dont think they will. I have a 6 inch red devil in a 75G tank with one apple snail and he had a little go at him at first but then realised he couldnt get him out and has left him alone ever since. Hes gone from about 2cm in diameter to easily 5cm now and still rapidly growing. So if mine can survive my RD(Very mean RD btw) I think yours should be fine.:)

they seem fine so far. Actually moving around more than some of my fish :ROFL::ROFL:

i keep cana and bridgesii snails in my african cichlid tank. they get eaten from time to time. give the snails places to hide ahd keep the fish fed and the will last longer. they will eventually be eaten

It varies, some of my cichlids never bother snails,my oscar eats them regardless of size

if they dont get eaten, the fish will pester the snail so much that the snail will not come out of its shell and eventually starve to death. that was the fate of my big cana 'tank'

Oscars love eating snails of all sizes.

I remember when I first got into the hobby I had a large apple snail in the
tank among other things. Then I picked up a couple of 3" Oscars a few days later. The next day I found them both fighting over the remains of that poor snail.

Your fish arent big anyway. More or less teenagers. They may have a go later on, but once they figure out it isnt food, No dramas!
