As the title states, all my aquariums are in the basement so the fish don't get very much human interaction. Any ideas on how to make them more comfortable? I have approximately 12 SA/CA cichlids (4 Synspilum, 2 GT's, JD,Texas, Firemouth etc.) all around 5-6 inches... Any suggestions would be great....

I have another tank down the basement that is a 125 with a 13" Jag and 12" Red Devil divided and they never shy away...

Once they associate you with food they should be fine. You might also want to spend more time around them until they get used to you.

aproch more often to condition them to u

yeah i have the same problem and posted a similar thread a few months ago. i was told:
1) to feed smaller amounts but feed more often so the fish associate you with food.
2) spend as much time near the tank as possible
3) get dither fish...i tried giant danios but they got eaten
4) get your fish another fish of the opposite sex
5) stop walking by the tank naked...it scares every living organism away within a 10 mile radius (jk! but #1-4 are legit)

Take pictures of the fish, if you like that kinda thing.. I'll usually spend about an hour at a time just taking pictures.. and that's 2-3 a week.. and that's besides just sitting in front of the tanks observing and enjoying.. so mine are pretty familiar with me..

I usually sit in fron of my tank a few minutes out of my day just for them to get used to someone being in front of them. My Sveni pike was ratehr shy but now hes alot more comfortable with me now especially when he sees food!

All I know is that when I had red-bellied piranhas, they also freaked out when I turned on the light and fed them. What I did was turn on the light for a while and as hey werent as viscious as people were.

I wish my fish would act normal around me. instead, when they see me they all crowd together in a giant mass, following me where I go along the tank.
