Do pet stores sell the same fish year round or are some fish seasonal? Mainly asking about the cichlid species.

I'm not sure about cichlids but I have seen some fish that are seasonal.

Common tank raised stuff is usually always available.. wild caught stuff can be seasonal depending on where it originates.

Agree with the above, it is sometimes impossible to easily collect during the rainy season in the tropics, so certain imported fish will not be seen until collecting begins in the dry season.
Even in some pond bred species, salable size individuals will appears a few months after spawning season. For some there are no seasons so always available.
Here in Panama the rainy season starts around August and ends in January.

^ makes sense, seems over here in Asia, i often see most wild caught types being available start of summer - just before winter season begins...
