Hello,
My fish have become easily scared when I walk by the tank. This has been going on for about 3 days now. The only change that has happened is I got rid of my 10" oscar. Im not sure if he made them secure or what cuz he swam around alot, my severums have never been like this and I have had them over a year. My dempseys are the worst though, they spaz out and crash into everything in the tank, i know dempseys can be skittish at times but theyve never been like this. What could be the cause for this?

Thanks.

Hmm the only time i've had this problem is with some silver dollars, they used to go mental every time the lights went on and whenever i did water changes. It used to freak me out watching them bash themselves sensless knocking into everthing. The only solution i found was to bump them off (only jk). Have you got plenty of cover in the tank, hiding places ect.. adding these worked for me. If you have plenty of cover it could be that they need time to adjust to the oscar being removed. Leaving the lights of for a few days and taking care not to make any sudden movements may help. Is the tank in an area with lots of foot traffic?

Steve

Descent amount of footcover and everyone has their hiding places. They had no problems with the foot traffic before.

I just checked my water and think that could be part of the problem, had planned on doing a cleaning tommorow. Hopefully that fixes it, but other suggestions still welcome.

Temp-80
PH-6.4
Akalinity-80ppm
Hardness-120ppm
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-150ppm
ammonia-0.5ppm

my gts were like that i had theyre tank in my bedroom at the end om bed. when i came into my room and there line of sight i just moved slower slow movements when i fed them and more time with you crouched in front of the tank at eye leve and not over them should free them up. feed them smaller amounts and take a while well feeding them to make them feel comfortable out with you in front of them

where did u get ur blue i havent found a good source yet i dont trust aquabid

I had purchased two blues from Jeff Rapps, Tangled up in cichlids, @3" each about 9 months ago. They started to really fight so I sold one a month back at about 5.5". I recommend you buy them at 3" plus or hollywood on aquabid is a very good source.

Also for lots more info check out the blue dempsey website.
