I ordered a 6" FL Gar and a 5" Red Tail Barracuda online. It will ship today and arrives tmrw. I work a 9-5 so the guy I bought it from suggested I have it shipped to my office. I have a few questions...

When it arrives, do I need to immediately take it home or can I keep them in the packaging until I get off work and go home? I live about 20 minutes from where I work. I CAN go home and take an extended lunch break but I just wanted to make sure. If there is NO danger to the fish then it would be easier on me to wait until I get off.

I know the Gar breaths air so if I absolutely have to, I can open the bag up to let fresh air in. Don't know what I could do for the Cuda though. Like I said, I CAN take them home. Just wanted to know.

personally if it were me out of paranoia i would take a 5 gal bucket and a battery powered air pump to work if you could get away with that, lol

I would take a cooler and a airpump with you to work. Fill the cooler with tank water before you leave and when you get to work, plug the airstone in. When your fish arrive, transfer them into your cooler..
This helps with two things. Keeps them from having a rise in ammonia and gets them into fresh water. The water that will be in with them has ammonia and waste in it from being in there for awhile. When fresh air hits that water after opening the bag, the levels of the water will change. Esp the ammonia level.
While being shipped, the perm of the water levels stay low do to the low oxygen. But once you introduce more oxygen to it, the levels will rise. This is why they say its better to take your shipped fish out rt away instead of doing a drip move.
Comming home from a pets store is totally different than being shipped to you..
If you have nice tank water in the cooler, air going, and ready to go when your fish arrive, your fish will be better off till you take them home. The 20 min ride home with no air going will be ok, they can last that long with out an air stone going...
If you are anything like me, you will want to see your fish rt away. Thats why it is better to get them moved to the cooler till you go home. Since you will have to open the bag to get a good look at them, then you will introduce new air and make the levels rise.
If you have some, even squirt some prime in the bag as soon as you open them. That will help block the rise of the levels till you get them into a net and moved into the cooler.
Then when you get off, take them home and put them in your tank.. you should be fine..

well how did the shipping come.. Did they all make it and home safe..?
