Hey MFK, iv treated for ich for a month now with paraguard and salt, now slowly removing the salt through waterchanges. My fish are still breathing hard and fast, one way worse than the other(shes not eating, now swimming funny and wasting away to a stick). Does anyone think it could be internal paracites such as worms? Im about to lose my mind over this, i cant figure it out and about to shut down the tank and sell everything out of frustration.

What type of fish? Water parameters? Tank mates? Do you have a hospital tank?

Jaguar cats, water parameters all check out, just pleco tankmate, no hospital tank. I have a thread in the catfish section about the treatment, I'm now more concerned it may be something else that wasnt coverd in my treatment cycle. I see no reason why they would be breathing heavy all the time, one literally hyperventilating all day/night.

Iv read that these guys can come in with bacterial or fungal infections because of where they are from, but iv treated full cycle for those. Do you think it could be some internal worm? I know another member on here just lost a newly aquired jaguar from parasitic infection, but that was also from a different supplier i believe, different batch from a different collection point.

Does the tank have good circulation and aeration?

Yupp, added two additional air stones, temp 75 and 2x more filtration than i need. Tank shouldnt be my problem, i have everything setup to exactly what this species requires.

so rapid breathing could be many things. Definitely stress (disease ,enviro and etc). and low oxygen can play a role. Then you do worry about parasites that are directly affecting the gills and can cause inflammation and damage. Another consideration is something like anemia (low blood level) which could be due to internal parasites. Of course there are many other possible causes too

Also ich does attack the gills. Are we sure its gone? Any chance you can see inside the gills while they are breathing? are they nice and pink/light red or pale or dark red?

Definitely could be a parasite burden involved weather that is internal or external like flukes.

What have you used to treat so far? Have you used prazi?
