I almost lost a fish over night; I turned off my moonlight and said good night to all my buddies. Work in the morning to feed them and I had a 2 1/2" bala shark missing. I check the floor, removed everything from the tank and checked my DIY overflows; no bala.]

]So now I’m scratching my head the only other thing I had was a canister filter, so I took it down and opened it up. Thanks be to God he was still alive inside the canister, he was hurt very badly missing half the scales from one side, with a super red fin.

This is where I found him

This is the intake on the canister, as you can see only 1/3 inch on each side of the intake

This Is the path he had to take to get from the sump to the canister, also

These are the best two photos’ I can get from him; you can't really tell the extent of the damage in the photos.

I hope the little guy will make it. Lesson is fish can fit in smaller holes than you think, always use a complete strainer, or foam; until your fish are big enough.

haha. The same thing happened to my old neon tetras back when i was like 9 or 10. 3 of them got stuck in the canister and the others got caught in the intake of the waterfall filter. Think it was a tetra 60 or something. But yeah, after that i lined both of the intakes with breathable foam and it never happened again. Weird that a 2.5 inch bala could get sucked up.
