Sounds like the fish is having trouble regulating its swim bladder. Did it just start doing this? did he just eat a lot of food? He might have some air trapped in his stomach.
when i bout my rope fish there was a couple doing the same thing and keep floating too the top and couldnt stay down what i found might be some off the problems where swim bladder infection,gas,constipation,i just kinda let them fast for about a day or so and they quickly recoverd,thawed frozen peas work for it to it acts as a laxitive...good luck.
ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 5. Has been in the tank for months, Had a big feeding two days ago, I'm hoping its just a gas bubble because its just the back half of her body, but I wanted to see what other possibilities were.
