Yes, anyone who has kept cichlids must have notice how smart they appear to be. Nice to see people actually trying to study them to see just how smart they really are.
i think sometimes, when it comes to 'intelligence' in animals, we are too human-centric. by the human definition, this is some sort of abstract thinking. but really, it's just a survival adaptation for them. i doubt they're doing algebra... or even calculus. but still a fascinating adaptation.
maybe intelligence is how well adapted you are to survive?
