Fish Collectors/Exporters in Ecuador?

I'm curious if anyone knows of any fish collectors or exporters based in Ecuador.

I spent the summer in Ecuador in 1996 studying Spanish literature. I met my wife there, she was also there studying from the same university I was attending. My 40th birthday is coming up in 18 months and I am thinking about going back to Ecuador for a couple weeks.

If possible I would like to visit a fish collection facility. Of course ideally I would bring home some fish, but I would have to see how that would work out. I speak fluent Spanish and have spent the last 20 years traveling extensively in Mexico, Central America, and South America, so I'm not put off by hard-to-reach locations.

I have tried my best with Google and haven't found a thing, so if anyone has a lead I would greatly appreciate it.

i think it's best to be there and ask there since youre going to be there anyway. Most of us here are just U.S. fish keepers. Hope someone will inform u anyhow.

Yeah, I've thought that may be what I have to do, but it would be nice to have at least a starting point.

If it does work out to bring home fish it would be rarer cichlids and characins, depending on what is available. I read an article that said that Ecuador is the "next hot collecting area", whatever that means...

I have a brother in-law from Ecuador. He and his family are building a new home there. They will then be going back to visit for month's at a time. If all this happens I know my wife will want to go visit to see her sister. So it could turn out to be a fish expedition for me too!
