I know the fish being imported from overseas are coming in with amazing color, then losing it. Some of them almost completely. These are not dyed fish, just hormoned up. I heard it used to be legal to buy/sell in the US and you would just add it to the water. Is it legal to get from anywhere? Do any foods have it in them? I know it can make the fish sterile but I don't care because I have an all male tank.

With a bunch of males hormoned into showing their bright mating colors all the time, you may end up with a tank version of Queer as Folk.

I've heard that adding vitamins and minerals to their food helps....and msg, but that's unconfirmed.
Even if they were legal I find it cruel, if you want pretty fish care for them and feed them well then you'll get bright fish
Yeah, or buy quality fish stock from the beginning. Wild caught, or captive bred from a small scale breeder. Not these junk F10000000000000 fish coming in from Asia.
