Looks like the type of advice one would get from a Petsmart employee, tbh. Fish compatibility is usually either common sense, or very species-specific, requiring specific research, paired with your own personal judgement. You're not going to find an accurate list of all interactions between different species all in one place.

lol, nice summary. I have to agree.

I only checked one compatability. My 3" Lake Vic destroyed all my Lake Malawi males in one night. According to the chart, they are highly compatible!

It looks to be a good "rule of thumb" type of thing, but I wouldn't give it any credence.

I expanded on that after posting it (I have a bad habit of posting things before saying all that I want to say, so I end up spending a lot of time editing my posts). ;)

I really wouldn't even go so far as to call it a good rule of thumb, really, considering how they've lumped all African fish into one group, and done the same with Asians, then suggested "puffers/brackish" as tankmates for "Africans", and suggested "Africans" to go with goldfish, etc., etc., etc.... It's really just big mess, and whoever created it is most likely the type that keeps pacu, common plecos, and RTC's in 20 gallon tanks...

Lack of complete information, always a bad idea.

thanks for sharing, that's how people learn, however - this chart isn't really acceptable for reasons listed above.

I always wondered where did the petco and pertsmart get there advice from. You ask them a question and they say let me go in the back. I always thought they were checking with someone never knew they were looking at a chart. LOL.

I would say the only thing good about this is that it recognizes the fact that not all fish are compatible. Which FNGs to the hobby need to learn. However, it could simply be replaced by a sign that says "Not all fish are compatible! Do your research!"

I agree totally, a list like that would be a waste of time. Research, experiance and good luck is about all u can do and hope for really
