OK, a couple of my fish got into it last night and now the jag is a little scrapped up. I treated him with Melafix and separated him from the others. Is there anything else I can do? Also is a 10 gallon big enough to be a hospital tank for a 6-7" jag? because that's my only empty tank at the moment and I'm really debating putting him in there.

your good, but i would have used salt first and bump the temp to 82 to 85 dagree's.

I would not throw the jag in a 10 gallon tank, Get a divider in your larger tank if possible.

That's exactly what I did this morning when i saw him, ran to Lowe's and picked up some light defuser stuff and separated him from the pike.

I would treat him in a 10 gallon. 10 gallons are perfect for hospital tanks, that way you can treat him by himself and won't have to use an awful lot of dosages on bigger tanks. You also don't have to worry about the other fish escaping the divider and beating on him again, etc.

Your jag got wuped by a pike? what kind of pike and how big?

Don't underestimate pikes, I had a 3-4 inch jag pair who was easily mauled by a 3 inch belly crawler pike. Crenicichlas can get pretty nasty.

Yes 10 gallon tanks can be great for treating fish, but not a 6-7" large bodied fish.

He'll be fine with just the divider in, add a little salt and He'll be fine.

With most fish, and especially with fish with any size on them, they will survive a lot and as long as they have appetite they will live.

He didn't get along with my 6-8" sp. Venezuela, he's really passive until there is something in the tank that can fit in his mouth or is challenging his turf.
